Every year MAC Cosmetics comes up with a limited-edition Viva Glam lipstick featuring the latest Viva Glam spokesperson. I love this brand and support all its causes, most especially the purchase of a Viva Glam lipstick, where 100% of the profit goes to helping men, women, and children living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. I have a number of Viva Glam lipsticks in my makeup kit and every December (December 1 is World AIDS Day), I make it a point to use Viva Glam lipsticks on my clients.
Many famous celebrities have been given the honor of being Viva Glam spokespersons, such as RuPaul (the original red Viva Glam), Lisa Marie Presley, Elton John, Pamela Anderson, Dita Von Teese, Fergie, Cyndi Lauper, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Ricky Martin, and just last year, Rihanna. This year, it’s a wham and bam lipstick shade that’s loud and attention-grabbing! 2015’s Viva Glam spokesperson is Miley Cyrus and her lipstick shade is out to get you, just in time for spring.
I purchased the Viva Glam Miley lipstick just a few weeks ago when I came home from a trip. Being a super-pigmented statement bright pink, this was one lipstick I knew I would love to use. Like all Viva Glam lipsticks, the Miley lipstick has a red packaging featuring Miley’s signature on the bullet.
The MAC website describes it as hot pink, and yes, it is a hot, hot pink when swatched! When I swatched it on my fingertip as well as on my lips, I could see that even without lipliner, the color stays true as its shade on the bullet. As most pigmented lipsticks tend to be drying on the lips, rest assured that this one isn’t very drying since it is in an amplified finish. It’s creamier and more moisturizing. After I removed the lipstick, my lips didn’t crack as much as with other pigmented lipstick brands.
The color payoff is pretty good and it leaves a stain when it fades off. If creamy or amplified lipsticks tend to feather on you, use a lipliner or a lip primer, such as MAC Prep + Prime Lip, P1,200. I tend to like a lot of bright lipsticks, because these are time-saving and effortless colors I can wear when I’m in a hurry, since I save time on eye makeup. I can wear this simply with a clean face, brows, and mascara or I can go Miley Glam with a warm smokey eye with a bit of pink color on the contour to tie things down. Brights like this color tend to freshen up the entire face, so if you are a makeup artist, you might want to have this in your makeup kit because you can use this as well in your next wedding gig. I used this on a bridesmaid on a wedding I did.
Try mixing this with a really pale lipstick or pair it with a gloss, such as the Miley lipglass that comes with the collection. Since it is shiny on its own, this gloss may also be used on top of a really matte lipstick.
If you want a new lipstick as a gift for someone or yourself, consider getting a Viva Glam lipstick. Not only is the quality worth every peso you spend, but it’s also for a good cause.
