I’ve had a looong love affair with nail polish. It started when I was a kid. I was an incessant nail-biter. My mother put ground chili peppers, garlic and even ampalaya on my nails in an attempt to stop me from biting them. Nothing worked! One day, she saw me admiring her nail polish and she said, “Do you want to try?” I was only 9 years old and to be invited into the world of grownup beauty secrets was magical. I said yes! Mama carefully applied red nail polish on my little nails and I marveled at their beauty. I couldn’t bear ruining my pretty nails! Just like that, my nail-biting was cured!
Thirty years on, I still love nail polish. It’s both a beauty enhancer and a fashion accessory. That’s why I can’t seem to have enough of it. I always wear nail polish! That is until I got pregnant five years ago. Because I had a tiny baby growing inside me, I needed polish that was free from harmful chemicals and harsh solvents. You never know how these can affect a baby!
That’s when I discovered Girlstuff Forever nail polishes. Actually, my classmate from grade school, Janina Gutierrez-Tan, a chemist and a mom, made these polishes (and other kikay stuff like colognes and hand sanitizers), and she sent some my way. I fell in love with them instantly. Here are my reasons:
It’s a local brand.
I’m so lucky I have a friend who’s not only smart enough to create beauty products, she’s also business-savvy to build a beloved brand. Janina says, “When I started Girlstuff, the plan was to come up with safe health-and-beauty products for tweeners. We had colognes, shimmer colognes, lip gloss, and safe nail polish. Since it was nail polish that was getting the most attention, we decided to bring a wider variety. Turns out, safe but reasonably priced polish is in-demand here!”
Because of the high demand, Girlstuff can be found in major malls like Megamall, and department stores like SM and Rustan’s. I like that convenience! But I hope they open an online shop, too.
It’s safe for kids. Therefore, it’s safe for anyone.
Because I was pregnant when I started using Girlstuff, I was so relieved to know that all their polishes are free from harmful chemicals like Toulene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), formaldehyde resin, and camphor.
Some of their polishes are even water-based. That means they’re washable. Perfect for little kids! Janina says, “Moms like our washable polish because their little girls can be kikay using water-based safe polish which, obviously, does not require the use of polish removers.”
The design of the bottles make for easy organization.
Almost all nail polish bottles are round. That means so much space is wasted on my dresser. With Girlstuff’s unique S shape, the bottles stack together and are easy to line up in a neat and satisfying row. I super love this S shape!
There are tons of colors.
There are brights for the kiddies, confetti and glitter for the tweens, pastels for the classic women, metallics, nudes, bold hues—there are soooo many shades to collect!!!
It’s super affordable.
A bottle of polish starts at just P100 and tops off at P150. But despite the affordability, it’s not cheap polish—it has good texture, dries fast, lasts long, and the colors are beautiful. It’s like pricey polish but for a really low price. You can collect them all!
