When my favorite Parisienne, Garance Doré, blogged about her skincare, she said she didn’t use water and instead used Avène on her skin as rinse. That was the most significant time I had a mad desire to use a certain product! Since then, I vowed to buy bottles upon bottles of Avène as soon as I landed in Paris. Alas, I was completely mesmerized by Parisian beauty bottles!
Lucky for me, Avène, a brand derived from a small town in Southern France, is now in Manila, and the formulation is tailored to match Asian skin, which is more exposed to humidity and pollution. As your resident French-obsessed Beauty Minister, here’s the lowdown on Avène’s micellar lotion, or simply put, makeup remover:
• It contains spring water derived from Avène, France, and is helpful in treating skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema. No skin disease? No problem!
• The micellar lotion removes makeup—even the most stubborn eye makeup. What I do is I wet a round cotton pad (my favorite is the one from The Body Shop) with micellar lotion, close my eyes, and let the makeup melt into the cotton pad. In under a minute, my eye area is clean.
• I noticed that my skin’s been softer since I started using it, and although it promises that it needs no rinsing, I still wash my face with a cleanser after.
• Avène products fall under the dermocosmetic category, which means that not only are they cosmetic, they are also designed to cure skin ailments. This is also the reason why they’re sold only at Mercury Drug for P735.
Overall: I’m very happy with how Avène worked on me. I have a friend whose skin didn’t agree with spring water so I’d err on the side of caution. However, I’m glad to be hiyang not just with the micellar lotion but also with the rest of the Avène products available here in Manila. I also love their sunblock!
