Packing a gym toiletry kit is like packing for travel. You want to squeeze in as many essentials as you can into a small bag, but would want to keep your bag as lightweight as possible.

GymBuddiesFEAT

I’ve been hitting the gym more often this year, so I’ve learned through trial and error how to pack and what to pack in my bag. Here are my top 5 essentials:

1. Dry shampoo
I don’t know about you, but I don’t like washing my hair in the gym bathroom. I’m always in a hurry for my next appointment or errand, and I’d rather wash my hair at home where I can enjoy a thorough lather. After discovering the wonders of dry shampoo, I keep a can in my gym bag. Lately I’ve been alternating between Joico, which I brought from the U.S., and the more fragrant Dove Dry Shampoo, which I got as pasalubong from Michigan. Here in Manila, you can get dry shampoo from Etude House and Beauty Bar.

2. Slide-proof headbands and elastics
Whether you have straight or curly hair, you’ll need to get those greasy stray hairs out of the way when hitting the treadmill or taking a Zumba class. I’m currently using Goody’s slide-proof elastics and headbands. I keep a spare or two in my kikay kit because I constantly misplace them.

3. Heavy-duty cleanser
Your face is extra greasy and grimy after an hour at the gym, so you need a cleanser or facial wash that’s stronger than your usual. I’m currently using the travel-sized version of Pond’s Pearl Cleansing Gel.

Etude House OMG! Dry Shampoo, P448; Pond’s Pearl Cleansing Gel, P149 (10 g); Goody slide-proof elastics, P429.75; and Nivea Anti-Perspirant Deo Spray, P170 (150 ml).

Etude House OMG! Dry Shampoo, P448; Pond’s Pearl Cleansing Gel, P149 (10 g); Goody slide-proof elastics, P429.75; and Nivea Anti-Perspirant Deo Spray (35 ml).

4. Heavy-duty deodorant
The last thing you want to be at the gym is the one emitting so much BO that people start to flee away from you! I make sure I spray on extra deo before busting a sweat to avoid this boo-boo. In my bag is Nivea’s Anti-Perspirant Deo Spray, which comes in a handy 35 ml size. It doesn’t leave an unsightly stain, whether you’re wearing a black or white top.

5. Multitasking makeup

Instead of packing more makeup into my already crammed toiletry bag, I just add two or three multitasking items, such as BB cream (which is a moisturizer, foundation, concealer, and SPF in one), and makeup stick (a lipstick, blush, and even eyeshadow in one). After a shower, I barely have enough time to do my makeup, so a quick application of my multitaskers is enough before I run to my next stop.
